The "riches" of Zipang definitely lie within the sashimi.*see chopstick picture below with description
We ordered 1 piece special scallop, 1 piece red tuna nigiri, Zipang roll, Spicy tuna, Alaska roll, and Ika Karrage (deep fried squid). The red tuna was absolutely delicious, the size and cut of it was 'texas' sized and very fresh. My favourite thing to order is the special scallop. Not many people like the scallop mayo mix on rice, but it satisfies my taste buds. The large 'futomaki' roll is the Zipang roll that had red tuna and egg. I should know to stay away from the giant rolls. They are physically difficult to eat as they fall apart when you pick it up and it's usually more rice in these rolls. Definitely avoiding this next time. The spicy tuna was very good, unlike other places that put dollops of spicy sauce on the roll, this spicy tuna was marinated in spicy sauce. My friend has an obsession with rolls that have cream cheese in it (she says only one restaurant in Winnipeg has the best roll with cream cheese). This roll did not disappoint. Usually the smoked salmon is on the inside of the roll but this one sat on the outside. This roll was very good, they didn't put too much creamcheese and even though it appears to have a larger rice to fish ratio, it did not taste that way.
The deep fried squid (Ika karrage) was not what I expected. The pieces were a bit too chewy/tough and there was no dipping sauce, only lemon.
I think the prices were a bit moderate however it's worth it if you order the right stuff. This is a sashimi lovers place, not a roll place. I love how they give you real chopsticks and not the take out style.
